Amanda Gorman is a young Poet who wrote and recited a poem for President Biden’s Inauguration. Her words touched the hearts and minds of many listeners.
This is what Anderson Cooper said to Amanda Gorman, during his interview with her following her reading of her poem for the Presidential Inauguration.
This was after she shared her Mantra, that she recites to herself before doing a reading of one of her poems:
“I do it whenever I perform, and I definitely did it this time,” Gorman said. “I close my eyes and I say: I am the daughter of Black writers, we are descended from freedom fighters, who broke their chains and changed the world. They call me.”

Cooper, in a stunned silence, managed: “Wow. Um, wow. You’re awesome. I’m so transfixed.”
