Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years. GOD BLESS
Reader Dexter Graphic comments:
When I looked up the official mortality statistics here I found somewhat different numbers than what the email claims.
Homicides 3,190 (not 230)
Suicides 8,590
Pneumonia 54,187
Influenza 7,774
Tuberculosis 86,309
Diarrhea (under 2 years old) 54,266
Diarrhea (2 years and over) 8,914
Heart disease 85,489
Stroke 39,701
Cancer 41,039
Accidents 45,416
Kidney disease 54,720
(These last three were not even mentioned in the email, and the high number of deaths from diarrhea really only applies to very young children.)
I found it interesting to read what people actually died of 100 years ago. You might want to look at the Mortality table yourself, it starts on page 106 of this pdf file.
Also, for someone born in 1910, the average life expectancy was 54 years. For those who survived their first two years, life expectancy was 60 years. (From US Government life tables published in 1912). There’s an informative essay on interpreting life expectancy statistics here: Life Expectancy – Beyond the Statistics. (It’s not really as bad as the numbers make it appear.)
